Easylib Cloud

☁️ Easylib Cloud

Why Easylib 6.4a Web Cloud version is preferred over local deployment?

Easylib is continually undergoing upgrades and it is almost impossible to keep the local version (when deployed at your servers) in sync with cloud version due to the effort involved in the upgrades. It may be recalled that there is a new version for last 36 months in a row from Easylib.

Server size, deployment of various supporting software components, RAM requirement, and maintenance efforts are pretty huge both for Easylib and College Staff. The entire setup needs to be replicated at your server, which is a cumbersome and avoidable activity. Going with Easylib cloud makes it faster and cheaper.

Things like enabling SMS, Email Configurations have effort when setting up at local servers. This is all pre-configured on Easylib server and features come without any additional effort.

The extra effort needed to take the local server online on Anydesk or TeamViewer every time something needs to be looked into consumes bandwidth, slows down resolution, and limits Easylib’s support level.

In case of local deployments, to provide any service, the timings of the System Administrator (to give server online), Library staff (to explain the issues), and Easylib staff (to address the issues) all need to be coordinated. This is often a bottleneck since both System Administrator and Easylib staff are shared resources. The speed of resolution improves by over 200% when deployed on Easylib Cloud.

To let all your students have access to OPAC and make full use of the library, you need a powerful server — Intel Xeon 8 Core, 64 GB RAM, Windows Server 2012 or above, with Static IP. Procuring such a server locally is expensive.

When colleges host local servers, multiple applications are often run on the same machine, causing conflicts and issues. Local installations also require system admins to maintain OS patches, schedule daily batch jobs, ensure all services are active, and handle disaster recovery procedures.

Colleges also need to manage backups, power supply, cooling, and high-speed internet for 24×7 availability — all of which increase costs and complexity. We’ve seen cases where missed backups caused major data loss.

Overall, going with Easylib Cloud is more convenient and cost-effective. You focus your energy on running your library — not managing servers. The total cost of ownership for the college is much lower with Easylib Cloud.
